Washington State Car Seat Laws
Children up to their 8th birthday, unless they are 4'9" tall (which ever comes first), must ride in a child restraint. (For example a child car seat, booster seat, vest, or other restraint that is federally approved for use in the car.)
The restraint system must be used correctly according to the car seat AND vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
Crybaby Comforts Car Seats Instructions
Infant - up to 22 lbs
Convertible - up to 33 lbs rear facing and up to 65 lbs forward facing
Booster - 40 lb minimum in weight
Best Practices For Car Seats
have a child ride rear facing until the maximum allowed in your convertible car seat. The new recommondation by the American Academy of Pediatrics is 2 years of age. (read more here http://aapnews.aappublications.org/cgi/content/citation/30/4/12)
have a child ride in a harness as long as possible. Many car seats have harnesses that go to 65 lbs now. Including all the convertible car seats that Crbaby Comforts rents for this reason.
have a child ride in a booster until the 4'9" magic number no matter what the age of the child is.
Children under 13 years old be transported in the back seat where it is practical to do so.
Children 8-years of age or at least 4'9" who wear a seat belt MUST use it correctly (never under the arm or behind the back) or continue to use a booster.
Vehicles equipped with lap-only seat belts are exempt from the requirement to use a booster seat
